Colleges accept scores from both the ACT & SAT. They do not prefer one test over the other.

The SAT is an aptitude test. Testing reasoning & verbal abilities.
*Each section is worth 200-800 points, which are added together for a combined score
The ACT is an achievement test. Measuring what a student learned.
*Each subject is worth 1-36 points, which are averaged together for a composite score.
